You can keep your vehicle properly maintained over the course of your ownership of it all you want. It isn’t going to stop it from eventually falling prey to the ravages of time. At some point, it is going to be so old that it keeps uneconomical it. If you play your cards right, you won’t be the one stuck with it when this happens, as you will have sold it on much earlier beforehand.
However, someone has to be stuck with a vehicle when it finally bites the dust. That someone may be you one day.
When this happens, there are options at your disposal for getting rid of it. But you most certainly should not abandon it on a random street in your town. That is even worse than storing it on your property indefinitely to just rot. What you need to do is get rid of it so you can purchase a replacement and have somewhere to park it at the end of the day.
This is a great way to sell a car if you have the time, and the vehicle is in good enough condition that you will get a pretty penny for it. But if the vehicle in question is as was described in the first paragraph, this will be an unrealistic expectation. This is due to the fact that on the private market, folks want a car that will not have serious issues once they buy it. A car that has gotten so old that it is no longer financially feasible to keep running is not going to be easy to sell privately.
Donate your car, this is a great way to do something nice for your community. Especially if the vehicle question is in a sad state indeed. You are basically donating money due to the fact that there is still value in the vehicle, and the charity who you donate it to will most likely get that money by in turn selling it to an auto wrecking company. That company will then salvage the parts and materials on it and make a good amount of money themselves.
This is by far the worst option. It is bad for all parties involved. This includes the environment. The fluids still in the car are going to leak into the ground and hurt the local wild life and plant life. That vehicle is going to take many hundreds of years to deteriorate, and the plastics on it are going to take even longer.
By far the superior option. You will get paid as the company will be making money out of the car, and therefore will need to share that money with you by buying it off you to begin with. Check out 3 ways to determine how much money your car is worth to a car wreckers. They will then recycle the vehicle so that it poses no harmful risk to the environment.
